Veolia chief executive says merger with SITA owner “makes sense”

The chief executive of Veolia Environnement has said that a merger with Suez Environnement “makes sense”.

In an interview with BFM radio and reported by Bloomberg, Veolia Environnement chief executive Antoine Frerot said that his company was ahead in its plans to cut debt, costs and sell assets, but any potential merger with Suez would be difficult to get past anti-trust regulations in France.

Suez owns the SITA waste management brand in the UK, while Veolia Environmental Services represents its parent in the British waste and recycling sector.

There were significant rumours last year that Veoila and Suez were discussing a potential merger, but both companies denied this in October.
