Metal: Copper down, but most metals steady

The price of copper fell yesterday as markets waited to see what would develop in Greece and Italy and how it might impact on an end to the eurozone crisis.

Copper was down to $7,802 (£4,858) on Monday from $7,940 (£4,956) on Friday.

Aluminium was lower at $2,141 (£1,333) yesterday compared to $2,153 (£1,344) at the end of last week. Alloy was down $10 to $2,090 (£1,301) from $2,100 (£1,311) on Friday.

Lead dropped to $1,997 (£1,243) yesterday from $2,047 (£1,278) at the end of last week. Nickel increased to $18,660 (£11,619) on Monday from Friday’s $18,500 (£11,547).

Tin was down to $21,900 (£13,636) yesterday from $22,100 (£13,794) on Friday. Zinc was also lower at $1,926 (£1,199) from Friday’s $1,958 (£1,222).

Steel remained unchanged at $525 but was £1 lower at £327.
