Metal: Zambia bans export of scrap metal

Tue, 20 Sep 2011

The President of African nation Zambia has decided to ban the export of scrap metal from the country.

President Banda has with immediate effect revoked all export licences from the country.

The order for the ban states: “All scrap metal is banned from exportation out of the country and a permit or licence issued for the exportation of scrap metal has been revoked.”

Offenders who break this new law could face up to five years in prison if convicted of exporting scrap metal. The reason for the ban is not clear.
